InPerson Groups
We have several in-person groups where you can meet other people who
have had, are in the process of having, or are thinking about having high-dose
chemotherapy. Most of them have also had a bone marrow transplant
or stem cell rescue. If you will contact
us and specify which group you wish to learn about, we will connect you
to the patient coordinator or patient leader for that group.
At the beginning of each month, we publish a newsletter
describing all of our activities for the coming month. With each
newsletter, we also include an information
sheet containing summaries about research and other items of of interest
to our members.
At present, the following outpatient groups are meeting regularly:
-
Los Angeles county, California - Meets in the evening on the third
Wednesday of each month in the San Fernando Valley
-
Hill group, California - Meets in the evening on the second Wednesday
even-numbered months (February, April, June, August, October, December);
the area served by this group includes southern Los Angeles county and
northern Orange county
-
San Diego county, California - Meets in the evening on the last Wednesday
of each month in LaJolla
-
Inland Empire (Riverside and San Bernardino counties), California - Meets
in the evening on the second Wednesday of odd-numbered months (January,
March, May, July, September, November) in Loma Linda
-
South Orange County, California - Meets in the evening on the fourth Wednesday
of even-numbered months (February, April, June, August, October, December)
in Irvine
In addition, we will be starting outpatient groups in other parts of the
country during 1999, including:
-
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, metropolitan area
-
New York City metropolitan area
-
Seattle, Washington, metropolitan area
-
Chicago, Illinois, metropolitan area
-
Atlanta, Georgia, metropolitan area
Finally, an in-patient group for patients at the
City of Hope's Bone Marrow
Oncology center will start in the spring of 1999.
Online groups
Our members have found a number of online groups of help during their
journeys. We have put together a list
of those we've found of interest to our members.
Additionally, we are presently looking at starting a listserve for patients
undergoing high-dose chemotherapy for solid tumors. Please contact
us if you would be interested in participating in this online group when
we start it.
